OUR INITIAL CSR GOALS
Based on our current assessment of the needs of the community and the environment surrounding our mine, the following is a short list of CSR goals we've identified for our initial CSR program that will be our responsibility. These goals are not our long term commitment, but a starting point.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP THE LOCAL ECONOMY GROW
IMP is committed to ensuring that the benefits of the IMP mine will reach the community at large. Where possible, IMP intends to hire locals. IMP is planning to hire approximately 100 people from the surrounding community to work at the mine, and another 100 people to work at the Concentrate Plants. In this case, IMP hopes that it can provide one good job for each home in the nearest village. Additionally, if possible, IMP intends to use locally owned hauling trucks to transport our Concentrate from the mine to the jetty, which should provide profitable work for truck owners on a continuous basis. It would further be expected that as more wealth enters the community, additional businesses would be established to provide services to the mine and Concentrate Plant employees and management staff.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RESPECT TRADITIONAL LAND RIGHTS
IMP MINERALS has negotiated with local communities to pay an agreed fee for land that will be used for mining operations based on traditional land rights among the Dayak peoples that actually have no official legal standing. While the land is actually owned by the government, and is officially designated as "Hutang Produksi" (meaning "production forest") under the control of the Ministry of Enviroment and Forestry, IMP is committed to honoring the traditional claims to land and paying a fair price for using it. However, legally, such payments are considered to be donations, and as a result must be recognized as an aspect of IMP's CSR responsibility. From a community relations perspective, such payments are a statement by IMP that we respect traditional culture in the area.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TRAIN LOCALS FOR EMPLOYMENT
The primary desire of the local people (beyond being paid for hereditary land rights, which IMP MINERALS is ensuring) is job opportunities. While current educational levels are challenging, IMP is committed to providing training and opportunities for good jobs for up to two hundred people from the surrounding area. Allowing households to then create stable economic futures in the nearest village and nearby hamlets. To develop local leaders and employees, IMP will identify young people with the talent and potential and will provide a quality educational support program, including financial support for university when appropriate. The objective is then is for these individuals to return from college and work with IMP to assist in developing a closer bond between company and community.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT LOCAL EDUCATION
While the government has done a good job of providing government schooling from elementary school (SD) through middle school (SMP) through to high school (SMA), IMP is determined to assist with improving the quality of education in the nearest village surrounding area, which are essentially the "communities at our door step." The goal being that young children will gain early childhood development opportunities, we will encourage graduation through to secondary schooling (often neglected in remote areas), and where possible, we will financially support entry into universities or vocational colleges.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT LOCAL HEALTHCARE
IMP is committed to building a full service clinic that will serve the its own employees and provide a full time doctor to support the local government run health care system. The local village nearest the mine, which is approximately 10 km away, has a population of around 3,000 people, comprised of around 600 homes. The average age is quite young. Currently there is a clinic in the village, but a doctor is not always at the clinic. IMP will need to ensure a full-time medical doctor and medical support team is available for the mine at all times and, so the doctor's services will be made available to the local community for emergencies. For other communities to the west of the mine, IMP's doctor may be the only option in case of emergency.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAINTAIN PUBLIC ROADS ON IMP LAND
IMP recognizes its responsibility to maintain the roads running through its concession that are also used by the local community, and will invest to ensure the ability of the local community to have improved access to more populated centers to the south, by using the roads IMP develops and maintains in the area. To achieve this, IMP has allocated funds linked to the quantity of Concentrate that will be hauled from the mine to the IMP jetty. These funds will be used to hire from the local community to assist in restoring roads, hiring equipment to repair the roads, and purchasing gravel in order to harden the roads. While some of the funds will be used to provide the heavy equipment required, such as excavators and graders other funds will be used to hire members of the community to help repair and maintain the roads and bridges.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SAFE-GUARD THE IMP ENVIRONMENT
IMP clearly understands its responsibilities in terms of safe guarding the environment. IMP will fully support the local authorities to prohibit unlicensed deforestation for any illegal activities, which may include illegal plantations, illegal logging or illegal mining within the concession. This will ensure protection for approximately 1,179 hectares of secondary forests surrounding the 300 hectare area IMP will use for mining. In regards to land reclamation, the Indonesian government requires payment of a land use bond that is held as a deposit by the government in order to ensure land will be restored. However, it is IMP's intention to utilize a rolling restoration process whereby a pit would be opened, mined and then closed even as the next phase of the same pit is opened. This is possible due to the actual small foot print of the planned pits. As such, IMP intends to ensure its own impact on the environment is as small as possible.
